Our Apple TV Review
The first generation Apple TV, the 1G, did have the built in HD hard drive (it was 40Gb then). However, with the market changing rapidly, Apple decided that the HD needed to be nixed.
Look at the Roku all streaming video content without a hard drive needed. Plus the fact that a 40GB or even a 160Gb drive, how many movies can you fit on that puny drive!? More on Apple TV Hulu Rumors – Apple Inc
Being an early adopter does not pay in this case! Also the 1G apple TV device was initially $199 bucks… But the set top streaming device was worth it. I love to stream movies and watch instantly all of my favorite TV shows.
The video in HD quality is nice, airplay and sound are excellent in both, but tv shows have the edge here.
This new version, the 2nd generation or 2G tried to eliminate the jerkiness, stutter like streaming video quality of the 1G apple box.
As well the 2G supports Netflix, watch instantly, on the Apple TV box. The fast forward on the old box was much like the Roku box, tough to do and hesitation as well as longer stream wait times when you watch TV or movies.
Hey I love my Netflix account and the watching of TV shows and movies current releases. This new streaming video player from Apple supports that, which I love! This purchase as from Best Buy and at $99.00 brand new – A steal compared to the first generation. This was a $100 drop in price, a huge move to compete with the Roku boxes and others.
The Apple TV Review
I really love the reduction in size of the footprint from the 1st gen model. It really is tiny compared to the old box! Youtube and HULU videos, movies and tv, music and photos are all playable, either from iTunes or computer, use your library or internet.
I like the iTunes store for the rentals and the sync quality.
I’ve tried to use the fast forward and rewind on this Apple TV product to compare the speeds, it performed better than expected. The increased amount of ram of 256MB is the key I think.
Streaming Apple TV Review
Glitches or pauses in the streaming really depends on your internet connection and whether you are hard wired or wi-fi connection or not. I did not have any problems here as the speed was excellent. Playback was smooth even on higher encoding movies.
Everything was watchable and smooth and the menu features were very nice running on the iOS platform and using a speedy processor.

Gripes: My only complaint is that Apple could not supply a free HDMI cable… Really, I have to supply my own, they could not include the HDMI cabling in the box? In reality it is not that bad, most people would have multiple cables or just use their existing to their satellite set-top box.
With the Apple TV Review
What it comes with: The Apple TV box, remote control, power cabling and cord. The ports: HDMI ports, ethernet port (it’s wi-fi as well), audio out and mini USB port. The packaging is nice as well, and my unit had no scratches or defects on the plastic case (others have complained about this in the past).
Apple TV Review seems like a vast improvement over the 1st gen, the next Apple TV Review.
